What can I read? What can you recommend me? Can I read a "normal" book?

Students ask me these questions very often. My answer? Well, you can read a book, magazines, online articles, etc. Everything is good if it helps you to practice your Spanish!

I recommend topics you enjoy, like and are interested in, so that it is more easy, enjoyable and you don't quit too soon. Because, quitting reading happens quite fast when a student gets bored with a topic.

If you have A1 - B1 level (begginer - pre-intermediate), then graded books, are the best for you. They are texts adapted to the different learning levels.  At the end of this article you have some graded books that I have used in my classes.

Regular books are preferable if you already have a B1 (intermediate) level or higher. And, what kind of topic? Anything you like and enjoy would be perfect. You have to have fun with it!

What are they? Why are they helpful?

These kind of books are adapted to a specific level and have extra sections that usually include vocabulary with explanations, exercises to practice and many have a CD to listen to the text. They are very practical books to learn and practice. The advantage: They won't be too difficult (they are adapted) and they also help you practice your listening comprehension. They are really good, mostly for beginners and pre-intermediate students and perfect to practice your reading and listening at home. I usually choose graded books to work with beginners and pre-intermediate learners as, in my experience, they produce good results. These books I describe next are book series I have worked with and, in general, students were positive about them. You can use them in class if you are a teacher or for practising on your own at home if you are a student.
