About me

Hello! My name is Vanesa and I am the person behind dl Spanish lessons. I am a native Spanish teacher from Spain and live in the Costa Blanca region. One of my passions are languages and their culture, which is why I studied languages at University and one of the reasons why I enjoy and love teaching!

My higher education includes a Master's degree in English Philology (Licenciatura en Filología Inglesa) as well as a PGCert in English-Spanish Translation (Máster Universitario en Traducción Inglés-Español) from the University of Alicante. Furthermore, I took a two-semester instance at the University of Limerick (Ireland) plus one semester at the University of Constance (Germany). I am a trained and certified teacher for language teaching by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Continuous teacher training is important to me. Whenever time allows me to, I attend continuous training courses for teachers since it’s essential to further develop and correctly apply various teaching strategies.

I speak fluent English and German and I have lived, studied and/or worked in England, Germany, Switzerland and Ireland. Accordingly, I have learned these countries' languages and also about their culture, which gave me a first hand understanding of how challenging learning a new language can be. But I also know how gratifying it is when you finally start speaking and understand the language you are putting so much effort into. That is why I can motivate and help you to reach that point!

I have years of experience in teaching foreign languages. After completing a course of Teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language (E.L.E) by the University of Alicante and the Instituto Cervantes, I started working as a Spanish teacher in Germany and Switzerland in 2005. I taught adults in courses from A1 to C1, for D.E.L.E exams and gave conversation classes in different language schools until 2009.

In 2015 and already back in Spain, I started working as a freelance translator from English/German into Spanish for different translation agencies and companies and as a private English/Spanish teacher. In 2016, I started teaching online.
